Gnawa Diffusion's members come from various backgrounds, slightly further across the Mediterranean. Their journey serves as a symbolic reflection of the experiences of immigrants in France. Amazigh Kateb feels connected to uprooted individuals, as he himself declares and proclaims. Son of the famous Algerian writer Kateb Yacine, he arrived in France in 1988 at the age of sixteen and quickly developed a combative, even protest-oriented philosophy: the situation must change, and inequalities must disappear. Gnawa Diffusion acts as the indispensable vehicle for delivering the message of dissent. Rap, ragga, reggae, jazz, raï: Gnawa Diffusion offers a mix of everything. Their musical skills, instrumentation, tastes, and passion for sounds, emotions, and meanings of youth have secured their music a prominent place on the global stage.
