Oblique Escapes
Exhibition by artist Irma Kalt
In her practice, Irma Kalt (Strasbourg, 1987) continuously anchors her forms, as if to better internalize them. Her initial movements revolve around drawing, after which she explores numerous pathways (printing on paper or fabric, photography, vectorization, then back to drawing or painting or printing). Through this complex metamorphosis process, she refines her motif and better identifies the perspective or focus that suits her. Questions emerge: How do we observe? At what distance? Are we far away, or do we engage from within? Between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary technology, her works reveal ghostly presences, graphic or pictorial data that have been there, have embodied their essence or vanished, yet continue to subtly resonate. For the artist, the fragile beauty of forms is realized only through this slow process, through which the motif is enriched with memory layers.
Her work is already represented in numerous public collections: Frac des Pays de la Loire, Frac Lorraine, art libraries of Strasbourg, Nantes, and Angers, as well as in many private collections.
