The starting point of this open-air concert, SOUNDGARDENING, is the music of Josephine Schmoll, Luxembourg's first composer (1836-1925), marking the centenary of her passing in 2025. Schmoll, recognized beyond Luxembourg's borders, worked on serious and entertainment music to reach a broader audience. Composers such as Helen Buchholtz (1887-1953) and Lou Koster (1889-1973) carried forward this tradition, offering light music often played outdoors and inspired by nature. The concert will also feature a world premiere by Tatsiana Zelianko, inspired by a poem by Nikolaus Welter, contributing to this music tradition tied to nature. This project, named SOUNDGARDENING, is part of IMAGES SONORES DE LA VILLE DE LUXEMBOURG, an initiative of the University of Luxembourg and the City of Luxembourg.
