In the life of ICH, nothing seems to go smoothly: ICH is in love with Lucie but kissed Andrej; has to take care of a younger sister, is going through puberty, has an overworked mother, and is expected to finish high school with great results. To make matters worse, ICH's beloved hamster, a secret TikTok star, escapes. How does one escape the hamster wheel when everyone demands something from them?
This play by Alice Rugai delves with a brave main character into the search for identity and self-determination, humorously exploring societal expectations of growing up and challenging preconceived notions. Created in collaboration with the scenic writing course at the University of the Arts Berlin, this piece is part of Perform Europe, a European Union-funded program supporting the performing arts sector in Europe. For the "Breaking the Hamster Wheel" project, Theater Strahl collaborates with the Mierscher Theater and the TAK Liechtenstein.
