Come and visit the Museum of Gorze and its abbey. The Museum of Gorze offers a guided tour of the Museum, the Church, and the exterior of the Abbatial Palace, exploring the history of the Abbey of Gorze. In 749, Chrodegand, Bishop of Metz, founded a Benedictine abbey under the patronage of Saint Gorgon. A cradle of the Gregorian Chant and a significant center of Christianity, it played a role for several centuries in the political and religious unification of the Frankish Kingdom and later the Carolingian Empire. Its numerous villages and vast estates formed the 'Terre de Gorze'. The Abbey was burned in 1552 and destroyed in 1580.
