Event - Open Doors at the Grand Synagogue of Metz
The Grand Synagogue of Metz - A Restored Heritage. Built in 1850 by Nicolas Derobe, an architect of the City of Metz, the Grand Synagogue stands majestically on the banks of a branch of the Moselle River. In neo-Roman style, inspired by basilica architecture, it is one of the largest and oldest synagogues in France still in operation. With its Jaumont stone facade and grand arches, it embodies both the spiritual richness and urban visibility of 19th-century Jewish life in Metz. As a historical monument, it serves as a strong symbol of memory and interfaith dialogue in the city. With support from the Heritage Foundation, the City of Metz, and numerous donors, two years of work have restored the full splendor of this exceptional monument.
