Workshop Series 'Political Thinking'
"Is Donald Trump a fascist or not?" This question has been raised frequently and answered differently. The term "fascist" has often been used as a synonym for "bad" or "politically dangerous," similar to how we use the term "dictatorship" to condemn a specific political regime, while forgetting that in Roman times, dictatorship was an institution provided for by the "Constitution" to save the Republic. In this first session, we will delve into the concept of fascism as developed by its first main theorists: Mussolini and Gentile in Italy, and Primo de Rivera, Ledesma Ramos, and Franco in Spain. This exploration will show that fascism was originally conceived as a revolutionary movement with a strong social and anti-capitalist component.
