My name is Nora Zrika. In Arabic, it means blue daylight, or so I'm told. I don't speak Arabic well. I was born in Luxembourg and learned to write in German. My mother is Franco-Luxembourgish, a non-practicing Catholic. My French ancestor signed the treaty of Louis XVI's arrest. Yet in France, all they see in me is a 'beurette.' My father is Moroccan, Arab-Berber, and a non-practicing Muslim. He doesn't speak Berber well. In Luxembourg, people think I have funny hair. Me, I don’t really laugh when I have to untangle it. In Foukara, Casablanca, Morocco, my grandparents' neighborhood, I am many things but not necessarily Moroccan.
