Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui & the Ballet of the Grand Théâtre de Genève
Following Idomeneo, re di Creta earlier this season, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and the dancers of the Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève return with a new dance creation. In Ihsane – which signifies an ideal of kindness and benevolence in Arabic – Cherkaoui explores his relationship with his father, who left Morocco for Flanders, while maintaining an unconditional love for his country of origin. With Ihsane, he also wishes to pay tribute to the eponymous young man of Moroccan origin, killed in Liège in 2012, outside a nightclub. Cherkaoui dances the questions that haunt him, such as multiple identities and origins, attempting to transcend conflict and oblivion.
