The tamUjUntU project was born from a spontaneous encounter between Brazilian choreographer Paulo Azevedo and dancers from Via Katlehong (Via Injabulo, 22-23) in 2023. Starting with this title, a shortened version of "estamos juntos," meaning "we are together," Paulo Azevedo refers to the African ancestry of Brazilians. The choreographer seeks to highlight the bonds of friendship, empathy, and solidarity within struggles that transcend borders and cultures, through dance. His creation is a manifesto of gestural complicity, referencing the urban and traditional dances of these two nations: the "Pantsula" resonates with the "Passino," and elements of "Amapiano" are interwoven with the "Samba." In tamUjUntU, the artists engage in an exchange of their respective dance vocabularies. Everything is possible there, except letting go of the other person's hand.
