As part of the Capucins Libre end-of-creation residency, Collectif F71 presents the play Les Habitant.e.s, an epic epistolary story featuring animal, plant, and micro-organic heroines. Three human 'terralinguists' (able to understand the language of non-humans) translate a strange correspondence: in the far North, a herd of reindeer faces the effects of climate change. A female, Inger-Mari, is sent on a mission to understand what is happening. She travels through Europe to the South and recounts her journey to her sisters who stayed behind. At each stage, her convoy grows as she meets other entities and other possible solutions. Written from collections made from the Sámi country in the Arctic to peri-urban and rural France, Les Habitant.e.s invites us to change perspective and listen to the non-human inhabitants of the Earth. The play combines theatre, live drawing, and singing to illustrate these viewpoints.
