To keep the art of clowning alive between two editions of the Clowns in Progress festival, the Kulturfabrik is organizing a special weekend with two premieres in Luxembourg on June 19 and 20, 2026.

"THE HEDGEHOG'S DICHOTOMY" - by Michel Machin

After exploring the world of drug users in his first creation, Benoît Boulay embarks on a new, equally provocative project: the Hedgehog. The aim is not to study this cute and timid little mammal, but rather to examine its symbolism, particularly this quote from Alain Reyniers, which will serve as the starting point for this new work: "...Through its way of life and its psychology, the hedgehog is a bit like the Gypsy of the animal kingdom."

This animal will serve as the entry point for exploring, always through the lens of the clown, the world of Travellers, a community with many names: Gypsies, Roma, Manouches, Roma, Gitans… Since childhood, Benoît Boulay has always been intrigued by the world of Travellers. A fascinating but also troubling world due to the prejudices it carries. The notion of anti-Gypsyism will be at the heart of this new artistic creation. For this new project, he will once again call upon his character, Michel Machin, an all-terrain clown, both funny and dramatic, sometimes sensitive and always motivated to address social issues. Driven by the idea that beyond laughter, the clown can say anything, he takes his clown this time into uncharted territory.

Unlike his first show about drugs, where he had a complete grasp of the subject, this time he tackles a theme whose codes he doesn't know. For this creation, only his own experiences and the gradual discovery of this world guided his research, and ultimately his clownish interpretation of the subject.
