For the very first time, the renowned New York company Pam Tanowitz Dance, known for its virtuoso treatment of classical and contemporary movement concepts, takes over the stage of the Grand Théâtre. The dance opens to the music of Beethoven’s celebrated Symphony No. 6 in F major, known as the Pastoral, which choreographer Pam Tanowitz then replaces partly with silence and partly with a new score by her longtime collaborator, the award-winning composer Caroline Shaw. The set is created by Brooklyn-based visual artist Sarah Crowner, famous for her abstract canvases evoking bucolic landscapes in magnificent colors. A performance of great musical dexterity, linking art and nature in a palimpsest of artistic layers, with the evocation of the natural world inspired by Beethoven as its guiding thread.
