A lecture by the MUSEU ARISTIDES DE SOUSA MENDES team about Aristides de Sousa Mendes. In 1940, the Portuguese consul in Bordeaux created a network that illegally issued more than 30,000 transit visas to refugees stranded in France, including many Luxembourgish Jews and the Grand Ducal family. Suspended from his diplomatic duties and barred from working, he lived in poverty until his death in 1954. In 1966, Yad Vashem recognised him as Righteous Among the Nations.
