"Writing (my) Democracy" is a creative writing workshop that includes discussions and reading stories, excerpts and articles that thematize freedom or its absence. You will be encouraged to write your own stories or essays about how the democratic concept of freedom affects your everyday life. During the course, you will be asked to keep a journal of ideas and observations to develop your awareness of how democratic ideals are or are not manifest in scenes of life around you. The freedoms we will look at are freedom and race; freedom and the body; freedom and political correctness; freedom and the press; freedom vs. authoritarianism. Paper or notebook.
