Regular tour: Viaggio in Italia
Like following a travel itinerary, the exhibition leads through emblematic cities and regions of Italy with works spanning four centuries. It includes idealized landscapes inspired by antiquity, numerous views of cities and squares, and urban daily scenes, all from the collections of the Gallerie d’Italia (museums of the Intesa Sanpaolo Bank). These works, bathed in the southern Italian light, highlight architectural elegance, the charm of landscapes, and the omnipresence of antiquity, further emphasized by Roman-inspired sculptures and authentic Greek vases from Apulia.
The journey begins in Naples, with 18th and 19th-century paintings and watercolors showcasing the famous Gulf of Naples, the picturesque old town, and striking details like the city's grottoes. Then, the genre of 'Capricci,' imaginative compositions of ancient ruins and bucolic landscapes, is explored with works from Italian, Dutch, and French artists. Views of Roman squares by Gaspar van Wittel beckon to explore the eternal city of Rome. This is followed by Florence set within Tuscan landscapes and concludes with Milan depicted as a historical and industrial capital, featuring a painting by futurist Umberto Boccioni. The journey ends in Venice and its iconic vedute, including works by Canaletto, and extends to its neighboring towns like Udine and Verona.
