An impressive system of fortifications, almost entirely gone since the Treaty of London in 1867, defended Kirchberg and protected the fortress city. Engineer Vauban, who led the siege operations in 1684, was tasked with developing a project to strengthen the fortress.

The museum offers two-hour guided tours to explore these fortifications. Participants must wear appropriate clothing, sturdy shoes, and bring a flashlight.
