Open Churches Weekend: Guided tour "The Nobles in the Church"
Guided tour as part of the Open Churches Weekend coordinated by the EwB | Adult Education
The church of Bartreng is a building from the beginning of the 18th century and an extension from the middle of the 19th century. In 1701, the old dilapidated church was rebuilt according to plans from the previous one. So that the old windows in the style of "flamboyant gothic" can still be seen today. In 1847, a transept, a new choir and a new church tower were built in the neo-gothic style.
The guided tour will highlight the relationships between the parish and the ladies and seigneurs of Bartrenger, including the Schauwenburg family. Their rights with the tithe and with the patronage rights, but also their obligations. The seigneury, which dates back to at least the 13th century, persisted until the French Revolution. But even in the 19th century, the Huart family still had their place in the church.
