The lawless hero, the baroque elegance of the sets, and the devastating humor: Macha Makeïeff, creator of Les Deschiens in the 1990s, adapts Molière's classic in a version that surprises, amuses, and plays on both literal and figurative meanings.
This Dom Juan has lost his splendor. At the end of his rope, with long, slightly greasy hair and a flabby body, he lounges around in his dressing gown, cloistered in his apartment, caught up in the vengeance of all the women he has scorned.
The staging delights us by plunging us into the libertine atmosphere of the 18th century and Dangerous Liaisons, while taking stock of what has changed in recent years with regard to seductive characters. Is Don Juan the sumptuous charmer who replaces morality with desire? Or rather a predator at the end of his reign, outdated and faltering, faced with resounding “no's”?
