Since its foundation in 1974 by Jordi Savall, the ensemble Hespèrion XXI strives to resonate with the cultural exchanges and meeting points between East and West, the Middle Ages and the baroque period, as they shaped the history of our musical sensitivity. Exploring all shades of lyrical expression, from lament to rage, from sorrow to helplessness, the program 'The Tears and the Fire of the Muses' invites appreciation of how English madrigalists were inspired by Monteverdi's art, achieving in turn an eloquent fusion of text and music.
