An impressive system of fortifications, almost entirely disappeared since the Treaty of London in 1867, defended Kirchberg and protected the fortress city. Engineer Vauban, who led the siege work in 1684, was tasked with developing a project to reinforce the fortress. The museum offers guided tours of these fortifications.
