At the crossroads of music, sound design, and speech, this work explores the lived experience of hearing through overlapping soundscapes, musical fragments, and treated voices. In a world premiere, this piece was created in collaboration with individuals hearing voices, a psychiatrist, a doctor, and a composer whose relatives have also experienced hearing voices. Understanding this experience is a significant step toward offering compassionate responses, reducing associated stigmas, raising awareness, and improving outcomes for those affected.
