The exhibition takes visitors on a journey of discovery through Italy's iconic cities and regions. Spanning three centuries and from the hands of Italian, Dutch, French, and British painters, it showcases idealized ancient landscapes, numerous vedute, and scenes of everyday life in urban settings. What unites these paintings are the southern light, the elegance of architecture, the charm of landscapes, and the omnipresence of Antiquity. In addition to city views, there are capricci, imaginative compositions of ancient ruins in bucolic landscapes. Highlights include the Roman squares painted by Gaspar van Wittel (1652-1736), the Venice of Canaletto (1697-1768), and the industrial city of Milan as seen by the futurist Umberto Boccioni (1882-1916). Towards the end of the exhibition, visitors of all ages can create their own capriccio as a digital collage. A coloring corner and a quiz round off the attractions for families with children.
