Throughout the history of cinema, gardens, parks, courtyards, and other green spaces have been much more than mere backdrops or settings. They have served as places where desires, anxieties, and fantasies are expressed and meaning is sought – be it in tranquil sanctuaries or mystery-enveloped labyrinths. These spaces showcase both nature shaped by human intervention and untouched wild areas, emphasizing the tension between order and chaos. This series explores the role and symbolism of cinematic gardens through four lectures.
