An impressive system of fortifications, almost entirely vanished since the Treaty of London in 1867, defended Kirchberg and protected the fortified city. The engineer Vauban, who supervised the siege works in 1684, was tasked with developing a project to reinforce the fortress.

The museum offers two-hour guided tours of these fortifications. Participants should wear appropriate clothing, sturdy shoes, and a flashlight.
