Mank USA 2020 | Directed by David Fincher | vostFR | 131 minutes | Digital | Cast: Gary Oldman, Amanda Seyfried, Lily Collins, Arliss Howard, Tom Burke.
The story follows Herman J. Mankiewicz, an American screenwriter resting in an isolated ranch, who has sixty days to deliver the first draft of the Citizen Kane screenplay. Battling alcoholism, Mankiewicz collaborates with Orson Welles, Hollywood's 24-year-old golden boy, and draws inspiration from his tenure at MGM, his associate connections with press magnate William Randolph Hearst, and his relationship with actress Marion Davies, Hearst's mistress.
"The arguments over whether Citizen Kane is the greatest film ever made will rage on forever. But the greatest film about Citizen Kane – and just about any other movie – has definitely arrived. Fincher's eleventh film is a lavish love letter to old Hollywood in all its glory, cynicism, and wild extravagance." (Time Out)
"Mank taps into a vein of feeling that reaches farther than mere family tribute. The film also serves as a political cri de coeur, one that inspires as much as it dismays." (Vanity Fair)
