The film "Pan's Labyrinth" (El laberinto del fauno) is a work blending fantasy and history, anchored in the reality of war in Spain in 1944. Carmen and her daughter Ofelia move in with Carmen's new husband, Vidal, an authoritarian captain in Franco's army. Ofelia discovers a mysterious labyrinth near their family home... The movie won 3 Oscars in 2007 and is regarded as a visually intense work, skillfully mixing horror, fantasy, and history.
