With "Hard to be soft – A Belfast Prayer," created with Belfast-born composer David Holmes, choreographer Oona Doherty presents a piece that resembles a physical prayer. Composed of four parts, the show explores the difficult relationship men have with their own emotions. The piece opens with a solo that appropriates the powerful gestures of young Northern Irish men. Then, in the second scene, Oona Doherty portrays young adolescent women, the "Sugar Army," and their daily struggles to be heard and seen. This is followed by a kaleidoscopic section on the flaws of masculinity and a final scene that celebrates the end of the cycle and rebirth. It is also a poetic work of awareness and transmission that the choreographer develops during workshops in each city to integrate young amateurs into the show.

Good to know

Workshops are integrated into each performance to include young amateurs. The show explores themes such as masculinity and broken memories of Belfast.
