Is misery less burdensome under the sun, as sung by Charles Aznavour? This question is subtly addressed in the book by Claude Frisoni and Raymond Reuter, published by the Chamber of Employees: is poverty more tolerable in a rich country? A rhetorical question, perhaps, but the answer is no less complex.
Poverty in Luxembourg is a little-known phenomenon, often deliberately obscured. However, the statistics clearly indicate its presence. The rate of working poor is the highest in Europe, and over 30,000 children, roughly one in four, are at risk of poverty.
"The Excluded from the Banquet" is a theatrical production that delves into the many aspects of poverty, examining its causes and consequences. This project seeks to bring forth the testimonies of those affected by various forms of precariousness, questioning the capacity of theater to represent societal realities often publicly ignored.
