Approaching the concept of a 'happy tragedy,' *Orlando* redefines the traditional format of opera seria. Central to its storyline is a complex love relationship involving four individuals: Orlando loves Angelica, who loves Medoro, who is loved by Dorinda. Devastated by unrequited love, Orlando descends into madness and seeks the help of the magician Zoroastro. Set within a museum, the production reflects on our perceptions of the past and present. Director Jeanne Desoubeaux revisits *Orlando*, one of Händel's most avant-garde operas inspired by Ariosto's epic poem, with a fresh take on gender norms. Originally performed in 1733 by the famed London castrato Senesino, today's interpretation features mezzo-soprano Katarina Bradić alongside the orchestra Les Talens Lyriques, conducted by Christophe Rousset.
