June 1940, France has signed the armistice, inciting euphoria in Berlin. Otto and Anna Quangel, living under Nazi rule, endure a personal tragedy: the loss of their only son on the front. Determined, they embark on a solitary resistance, leaving anonymous messages around the city, drawing the Gestapo's attention. Commissioner Escherich then launches a relentless manhunt, further strengthening the couple's resolve.
