Dancer and choreographer Laura Arend's new creation, IARA: Ballet for the Amazons of Yesterday and Today, is an ode to resilience and feminine strength, inspired by the Amazons of ancient mythology. The piece reimagines their struggles in light of today's feminist battles, blending physical intensity and emotional sensitivity with an exploration of power, identity, and freedom. At the heart of the performance is a transformable skirt that shifts from cape to dress to flag, embodying the multifaceted nature of women. Set to a musical composition by Brazilian electronic musician Marian that blends classical opera and electronic music, three artists intertwine their movements and energy in a quest for greater emancipation and equality. Dance becomes a gentle yet powerful weapon against patriarchal norms, a call to rethink our internal and collective battles, and a celebration of the Amazons.
