Jean-Michel Decroly holds a doctorate in geographical sciences and is a Professor at the Université libre de Bruxelles, where he teaches general human geography, regional geography, cultural geography, and the geography and economics of tourism. He has critically examined the question "Are the Olympic Games worth it?" In his work, he analyzes the Games as the world's largest sporting spectacle, but also as an event at the center of major controversies, emphasizing the social and environmental costs, gigantism, and growing commercialization of the Olympic Games.
