This conference, a prelude to the opening of the François Morellet. 100 percent exhibition, will see its curator Michel Gauthier retrace the artist’s unique career while developing the main idea behind this major retrospective: Morellet is singular in being both the leading French representative of geometric abstraction and the one who most definitively contributed to destabilizing it.
The conference explores, through selected artworks, the ambivalence between irrationality and reason, between the legacy of Francis Picabia and that of Piet Mondrian, whom the artist likes to evoke.
