Tessa, a criminal defense lawyer, is highly successful and knows all the tricks to secure acquittals, even when the case seems hopeless. She specializes in complex cases, especially sexual offenses, by meticulously exposing the prosecution's mistakes. For Tessa, law outweighs emotions and morals, and the presumption of innocence prevails until guilt is proven.
After a night of partying, her colleague Julian acts abusively towards her. Suddenly, Tessa is in the opposite position—no longer defending, but accusing, and now she has to bring the evidence and arguments she used to refute. She feels at the mercy of the judicial system she once controlled.
Written by Australian-British author Suzie Miller, herself a lawyer, "Prima Facie" on stage becomes a moving plea, demonstrating the justice system's weaknesses from a victim's perspective.
