Summer. It is hot, and a family meets by the lake. Konstantin has dropped out of his studies and, together with Nina, whom he is madly in love with, has prepared a play that aims to revolutionize the theatre. In the audience: his mother, the famous Arkadina, and her partner, the successful writer Trigorine. But Konstantin’s worst nightmare comes true: before the end of the play, a quarrel breaks out. Family relationships are shaken, new couples are formed, and nothing will ever be the same again.
The Seagull by Chekhov is one of the most performed plays worldwide and, for the first time, this text is presented in a modern adaptation in Luxembourgish. Free, direct, unfiltered—the characters are at the centre of a generational conflict and social tensions that remain relevant today. What is the place of young people? What is worth fighting for? Where are compromises made, and what should one believe in in life? The characters in this classic seek meaning, try to believe in one another, and are touching in their humanity.
