Dense clouds of fog blanket the valleys, the glaciers have melted, and only the mountaineers remain in the Alps. Well-trained and perfectly equipped, they are always on their way to the next summit, where the air is purest. Three of them meet and frankly assess each other's health, age, and physical condition to gauge each other's worth and, perhaps, negotiate a temporary partnership. It soon becomes apparent that questionable values and strange ways prevail here. The past and everything unrelated to the mountains seem forgotten; no one remembers faces anymore, and the death of one's own partner in a rockfall is quickly overcome. In place of human feelings, there reigns a steely optimism. It seems that nothing can shake these mountaineers' existence…
