On 24 March, Openscreen invites you to our Doc & Talk event at Kinoler in Kahler. The new season of the series is supported by the Ministry of Family Affairs, Solidarity, Living Together and Reception of Refugees as part of the Biergerpakt initiative.

The first documentary is from Canada and couldn’t have a better title for this series: “Living Together”. The screening at Kinoler starts at 19:30 and director Halima Elkhatabi will take part in the discussion at the end.

This film, full of genuine encounters and empathy, provides a delicate glimpse into the world we live in, where we all learn to live better together every day—being open, accepting, and understanding.

Synopsis: As the housing shortage grows worse, several young people looking to share an apartment seek authentic connections. Filmed in 15 Montreal apartments, director Halima Elkhatabi paints a complex portrait of a generation used to playing all their identity cards to find their place in the world. The honest interviews between tenants explore questions from shower time to white privilege awareness, polyamory to neuro-inclusive communication, anxiety disorders to self-acceptance. These frank discussions touch on power dynamics and oppression systems, as each person seeks to define their individuality and boundaries within shared spaces.

Through inquisitive encounters and captivating conversations, a mosaic of cultures and ideas emerges, exploring community, individualism, and the right to housing. "Living Together" reminds us that finding a home is also about finding wellness and shared values.

We thank our partners: the communes of Garnich and Bettembourg, as well as Ciné le Paris, Ciné Sura, and Kinoler, who will continue hosting our screenings.
