An impressive system of fortifications, almost entirely disappeared since the Treaty of London in 1867, defended the Kirchberg and protected the fortress city. The engineer Vauban, who led the work during the 1684 siege, developed a plan to reinforce the fortress. The museum offers two-hour guided tours of these fortifications.
