On May 9 and 10, at the Cimetière de l’Est, discover Metz's funerary heritage from a historical perspective, with the first Metz edition of the Springtime of Cemeteries, on the theme of the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-1871.
Visitors are invited to commemorate the creation of the Dames de Metz, founded by women who tended the graves of soldiers who died for their country during the war, through an exhibition retracing their history and many charitable actions.
A memorial walk will allow you to observe the graves of six Dames de Metz buried at the Cimetière de l’Est. A ceremony is also dedicated to the restoration of the monument to soldiers who died in the 1870-1871 war.
The public will be immersed in the history of the siege of Metz and daily life of the soldiers during this period, thanks to the exhibitors' village at the cemetery entrance.
