"To my deep black bitumen, I add mother-of-pearl. Osmosis of materials. My task is to enclose everything, the truth, in a single appearance, whatever the motif, like a theater of uncertainty. I like there to be sensuality, refinement, a richness that comes from using not necessarily noble tools, like my bituminized paper, my steamed paper, my worn brushes. The value of painting is to evoke feelings, that's all. If you evoke feelings, it's a success."
