The exhibition 'The Room Behind It' presents the newest series of works by Enrico Bach (*1980, DE) and the artist's first solo show at Valerius Gallery. The painting series features dominant white shapes on colored canvases, exploring space, composition, and color. These cut-out shapes suggest fragments that extend beyond the canvas, revealing layers and pointing toward the wall and exhibition space. The works treat painting as both illusion and object, with depth emerging from breaks in form, line, and color, while contrasts—light and dark, warm and cool, soft and hard—define the surfaces. Soft, dissolving shapes are intersected by sharp, digital-like lines, introducing a dialogue with contemporary screen-based imagery.
