In partnership with the Héritages Research Unit, this symposium offers a space for discussion on questions related to death and the uncertainty it provokes in the production of beliefs and superstitions, allowing us to imagine, prepare for, or protect ourselves from it. The symposium invites participants to reflect on the representation of death, especially through scenic devices such as literature, visual arts, theatre or any other form capable of staging death, dying, or the afterlife. The event aims to question how death is named and represented in connection with societies, to examine changes, diversions or concealments, and to analyze the role of actors (living, dead, spirits, ghosts, undead) in these devices. The symposium also explores the narrations, the circulation of stories, and the construction of memory through these scenic devices.
