Individual Action before European Courts – a Comparative Presentation

Starting with a historical presentation of the procedural status of individuals before international courts, the speaker will address the requirements for access to European courts, highlighting opportunities and obstacles to effective justice in light of current living conditions. A comparative approach will shed light on the principle of subsidiarity at the Strasbourg Court and the role of the General Court of the European Union in ensuring respect for human rights within the European Union. Dean Spielmann, former judge and President of the First Chamber of the General Court of the European Union (2016-2025), and currently Advocate General at the Court of Justice of the European Union, is the author of numerous publications.
