Since the 19th century, Luxembourg has established itself as a fascinating travel destination. Its diverse landscapes and rich history captivate visitors. First explored by travelers from neighboring regions, the country gradually opened to tourism with the development of transportation, and the city of Luxembourg became its cultural, political, and economic center. This exhibition traces the evolution of tourism in Luxembourg through photographs from the Photothèque de la Ville de Luxembourg: from arrival to strolling in the city, from discovering sites to relaxation and the search for the perfect snapshot. The photographs illustrate not only typical tourist activities but also the transformations of the city and its visitors, marked by economic growth, the introduction of paid holidays, and more recently, the spread of smartphones, changing how memories are kept. For the first time, Luxembourg photographers who have traveled abroad also share their own perspectives, enriching the narrative. In summer, part of the exhibition continues on the pedestrian bridge linking Place de la Gare to Bonnevoie, a symbol of arrivals and departures. The exhibition thus highlights Luxembourg as both a destination and a starting point for journeys, illustrating the enduring desire to discover the world.
