Les Curiosités esthétiques, based in Metz, present the splendid Bach Trio Sonatas, marvels of sonic invention. Although their name suggests otherwise, these works were originally conceived for two instruments: viol da gamba and harpsichord. Vincent Bernhard, Jean-Pierre Pinet, and Vincent Roth take up the challenge of performing them with cello, flute, and fortepiano. In the 18th century, transcription was a common practice, allowing Bach to reveal new freshness and light.
