A dreamlike line-up: on one side, today's piano master Fazıl Say; on the other, trumpet expert Lucienne Renaudin Vary. Continuing the tradition of performer-composers, the pianist creates a new concert piece for his colleague. They then perform Shostakovich's Piano Concerto No. 1, a radiant gem where trumpet and piano exchange dialogues with energy, humor, and acidity. The excellent Basel Chamber Orchestra concludes the program with the Serenade for Strings, Dvořák's homage to Bohemian dances composed for his wife as a wedding gift.
