Between Paris, New York, and Jones Beach, Maï Lucas builds a living archive of hip-hop, fashion, and countercultures. Her perspective, shaped by friendships, parties, style, and belonging, captures communities in ways that highlight visibility, pride, tenderness, and strength, challenging negative representations and bringing forth new narratives. Maï Lucas is known for her iconic images documenting the rise of hip-hop culture in France (1986–1996). She later worked on the streets of New York (1990–2010). Her work is now displayed in several museums.
