The German conductor Kevin John Edusei takes us on a grand imaginary ball. The Suite of Dances, the result of a decade of ethnomusicological journeys, draws on the popular musical folklores Béla Bartók studied and recorded in the Hungarian, Romanian, and Algerian countryside. Written in 1934, Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini unfolds the quintessentially Slav lyricism of Sergei Rachmaninov. The impeccable technique of the great pianist Andreï Korobeinikov promises to enhance the lyricism of this dizzying work often used in cinema. As the apotheosis of this exceptional program, Brahms' Symphony No. 1 is the magnificent consecration of a composer who transcends the Beethovenian model.
