Immediate boarding for Bolivia! Born in the Andes, conductor Mariana Delgadillo Espinoza takes us on a fascinating journey through the musical history of her homeland. From the villancicos of the Golden Age to today’s traditional dances, Ensemble Alkymia presents, on period instruments, a selection of a sumptuous repertoire with a unique syncretism. There is lots of joy and light in this music, blending African rhythms, baroque harmonies, and Andean melodies, but also great emotion when the songs evoke the plight of the Black slaves of the silver mines of Potosi. Driven by irrepressible energy, to the beat of a participatory dance ball, Viva la Gracia! is a fabulous journey and a musical ode to life.
